My Struggle with Food Allergies

A JOURNEY TO HEALING

When my son was just one year old, we discovered the life-changing reality of his severe food allergies during his first Thanksgiving meal. He enjoyed homemade mac and cheese, but within minutes, he had a severe allergic reaction. Rushing him to the hospital, we learned he was allergic to the top 9 food allergens: gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish, and wheat. This was a crushing moment for me as a mother, knowing that so many of the foods we loved were now off-limits, leaving us to face a new reality of constant label-checking and fear around every meal.

As we navigated our new lifestyle, I soon realized an unexpected challenge—spices, the very ingredients that bring flavor to our meals, could also pose a threat. Many spices on the market were either cross contacted with allergens during the harvesting or purposely contaminated with allergens during manufacturing. Even the best spices could contain hidden preservatives or be processed in facilities that didn’t meet our stringent safety needs. This made it nearly impossible to find clean, safe options that would support our healing journey, while still allowing us to enjoy the rich cultural meals we once shared as a family.

Determined to find a solution, I became a Certified Ayurvedic Health Instructor and began to learn how to heal through food.

This led to the creation of IrieVeda—a line of handcrafted, allergen-free spice blends that are carefully crafted in a dedicated, allergen-free facility to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination and preservatives. By using the healing properties of spices like turmeric, ginger, and fennel, I could offer a safe and nourishing way to enhance digestion, immunity, and flavor. The transformation we experienced was incredible—our meals became nourishing again, and we felt more energized and balanced than ever before.

Now, I’m passionate about helping others reclaim their health and discover the power of clean, flavorful, Ayurvedic living, just as my family did.
